Greenmax Green Tea Au Lait
Friday, January 29, 2010
I was at Eastpoint Simei shopping mall the other day and this organic shop right in front of an escalator caught my attention. The display of a green tea package was what prompted me to step in.
Costing $10.80, I bought this 20 instant packets of Green Tea Au Lait powder from the shop. Its looks so inviting and so delicious.
I thought this brand is available in NTUCs but I am not sure, I may have to check it out on my next trip to the NTUC.
I was quite disappointed with the powder sachet. It was not that bad but I guess I may have misunderstood what this drink is all about. I thought it was more like those frothy matcha latte but its not. Strangely enough, it reminded me of coffee with green tea dosage in it. Seems quite a weird taste to me.
The taste is starting to grow on me and I am starting to like it. Although its not what I thought it was, but its a nice tea to drink every morning after breakfast.
Ingredients :
Japanese Green Tea Powder, American Non-Diary Creamer, Australian Skim Milk Powder, Rock Sugar, Catechins EGCg.

Dead Wrong - J.A. Jance
Monday, January 25, 2010
Juggling a family and a career is never easy-and it's becoming a real challenge for Sheriff Joanna Brady. Coping with the impending delivery of her second child as well as a staff shortage, the last things Joanna needs are two serious crimes.
First, the body of an unidentified man is found in the desert, all of his fingers savagely severed. Following the scant clues, Joanna learns that the victim was an ex-con who had served twenty years in prison after confessing to the murder of his pregnant wife. During his last days he was seen following and photographing a young woman.
Then one of Joanna's officers is brutally attacked and left for dead while on an unau-thorized stakeout. Because the officer is one of its own, the department throws its resources into finding her attacker.
But the murder haunts Joanna. Being a sher-iff is no longer an empty position she wants to hold-somehow it has become what she is. Her job is to avenge man's inhumanity toward man, and finding out who the victim was and why he is dead is what she has been summoned to do with her life. Strapping on a bulletproof vest, she'll risk everything to see that justice is done.
He was a convicted murder and an alcoholic. Nobody should have cared much when Bradley Evans turned up dead. But Sheriff Joanna Brady feels a tie. Her father was the man who arrested Evans years before and now someone has killed the man. She intends to track down Evans's murderer and make him pay for his crime. Life, and other crimes, though, have a way of getting in the way. For one thing, Joanna is nine months pregnant. For another, her county is near the Mexican border and Border Patrol often calls for local assistant. For a third, dead pit bulls have been turning up at a disturbing pace--evidence of illegal dog-fighting. Since Animal Control falls under the Sheriff's office, Brady needs to do something about that, too.
This is my 2nd book from J.A. Jance. I am starting to enjoy it although I wish that all the ends are explained.
It did not tell how and when Bradley Evans' wife become dead, is Rory Mackham really having an affair with Ruth, etc. Readers are left to their own imagination and conclusion as to why and how it happened. Its frustrating because I like books which have a start and an end.
I hope that all her books are not like that.
You can get her book from here.
Born on a Blue Day - Daniel Tammet
Friday, January 15, 2010
Wednesdays are blue in Daniel Tammet’s world. His book “Born on a Blue Day: Inside the Extraordinary Mind of an Autistic Savant” is his stunning autobiography. That he has written such a precise and yet fascinating record of his existence to date opens a door on the world of this uncommon but growing condition.
Autistic people, especially those who also suffer from Asperger’s Syndrome have great difficulty socially and communication skills at Tammet’s level are uncommon. The majority of his life has been spent in a withdrawn state punctuated by his fame as a savant. His ability to sense the world of numbers and dates as shapes and colors, otherwise known as synesthesia, led to his record breaking recitation of the mathematical proportion “pi” to 22,514 decimal places that took five hours.
I enjoyed his book thoroughly, as he brings us to his extraordinary mind and his perspective of the things around him. He is considered a celebrity in his own rights and its a comfortable thought that he have achieved more than a normal human being on the street. He deserved our applause.
Kudos to his families and his partner, Neil for always being there for him and not giving up on him. It matters so much and made a huge difference in someone's life.

BreadTalk Green Tea Swiss Roll
Thursday, January 14, 2010
I am a matcha fan so I love to try anything that is related to green tea but I do not take red beans so any green tea desserts with azuki beans are out.
Breadtalk cakes comes with azuki beans so I will never try that.
Next in line, is this green tea swiss roll.
I am disappointed with this though. As you can see, the cream based filling is so miserable. It would be so much better if the cream filling are much more than what is seen here, it will make the whole cake much more enjoyable.
The green tea flavour is there, but its slightly dry and not exactly soft and spongy like what a swiss roll should be. It costs $1.30 at all Breadtalk outlets.

Wing Wah Honey and Green Tea Cookie
Thursday, January 7, 2010
A friend of mine bought this for me when he went for a business trip but I believe it should be available in Hong Kong since Wing Wah originates from there.
Packed individually in every 2 pieces, there are a total of 5 packs, equivalent to a total of 10pcs. I noticed that its not evenly cut between the top and bottom layer but its not exactly a big issue but it does not give a nice presentation with the crooked and uneven cut.
Lightly flavoured with green tea, the honey is not really that apparent but the combination of green tea and honey is a refreshing goodness treat, knowing that both green tea and honey are good for our consumption.
The cookie also crumbles easily when I bite into it.
Ingredients :
wheat flour, honey, sugar, vegetable shortening, egg, mung bean powder, milk powder, green tea powder, modified starch, raising agents(E500(i), E500(ii)), flavouring

EIWA Matcha Green Tea Cream Filled Marshmallows
Wednesday, January 6, 2010
This made in Japan snack by Eiwa Confectionery Co is a lovely Green Tea and Milk Marshmallow.
Soft and sweet with yummy green tea flavour, it’s a sweet treat in the afternoon.
And because its so small, sometimes, I will be popping one after another into my mouth. I can finish a few pieces at one go but its not good in the long term.
Its too sweet and my mouth will have a dry after-taste, which had me clambering for water to get rid of the taste.
Ingredients : Sugar, corn, syrup, gelatin, corn starch, egg white starch, green tea powder lactose, whole milk, emulsifier

Vanilla Pod by Chef Peter & Co
Sunday, January 3, 2010
To celebrate my 2nd year wedding anniversary, I decided to visit this Vanilla Pod, located at Mandai Lake Road. I chose it to be a Sunday lazy afternoon as the lady on the phone told me, it would be better to view the orchids on a day rather than a night.
Well, it wasn't quite what I expect it to be. It was located in quite a remote place, a car is definitely needed to reach this place. There were no clear signage as to the main door although there was a paper notice pasted on the first door we have seen, requesting us to visit the main door further down to the right. That was when I noticed that a solemnisation was in place at the restaurant itself.
I wish I was informed of this soleminsation when I made my reservation because the purpose is for me to enjoy the view, isn't it? Since the restaurant was reserved for the soleminsation, I was told by the staff that I have to make my way to a place beside a cafe, which is that first door I saw earlier.
That male staff was also aware that we were the 2 customers for that day, so I do not understand why the first door was locked with a chain.
We went back and stood outside the cafe door, wondering if its the one, while at the same time, taking in the almost non-existent scenic view. Another male staff hurried over to open the door, set the table, switched on the air-con and FM96.3 radio music.
I felt that we were not valued as customers at that point in time and was quite upset that no one was prepared to receive us as customers. All their attention were focused on the soleminsation and guests. I guess I should expect to understand that, since the number of customers greatly overtook us but still, it would be better if they could have prepared the cafe for us in advance.
The menu itself was in a poor state, almost torn and slightly dirty. I was told that this room is a private function room and that we had to use this, because the restaurant was reserved for the soleminsation.
The private function room looks like a room, with 3 tables, 2 air-conditioned units, 1 bartop and 2 couches with cushions. There were 3 tables outside the door, meant to be for al fresco dining.
In terms of ambience, it failed, according to my standard. It looks and feel run-down. The condition of the room does not seem well-kept, in view of the old fabric couches.
This room overlooks a small pond.
Perhaps it would be different story if we got the restaurant but too bad, I was not given a chance because of the soleminsation.
We were the only 2 customers for that afternoon. It feels good since there are no disturbance but then again, it reflects that the business may be poor.
We were served by a lady and service was pretty good, attentive and polite.
The food presentation was pretty good but the food was quite average.
We started off with the Mushroom Trio Soup which was not really rich in flavour although it looks pretty tasty. For the main course, I ordered the Red Snapper Fillet and my partner ordered the Seafood Spaghetti, both were pretty moderate. The serving size is pretty small but I am fine with that.
I am only impressed with the dessert which is The Valrhona Chocolate Lava Cake. The dark chocolate ozzing out of the lava cake was simply divine. Its not the best but its definitely good. My partner was not that impressed with it though.
Order :
Trio Mushroom Soup $6.50
Pan Fried Red Snapper $21.50
Seafood Spaghetti $16.50
Valhrona Molten Lava Chocolate $12.50
Total : $67.05

In a dynamic new portrayal of Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous characters, "Sherlock Holmes" sends Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his stalwart partner Watson (Jude Law) on their latest challenge. Revealing fighting skills as lethal as his legendary intellect, Holmes will battle as never before to bring down a new nemesis and unravel a deadly plot that could destroy the country.

But when Blackwood mysteriously returns from the grave and resumes his killing spree, Holmes must take up the hunt once again. It was slightly draggy in the initial part of the movie, with lots of dialogues. However, when the fighting starts and the mysteries started to unravel, I found it to be too fast-paced for me to fully comprehend the whole story and how the mysteries get resolved.
Robert Downey Jr seems to fit into the story very well, portrayed as a witty detective. The way he solved his mysteries and the way he analyzed someone or some place just by looking at him or the place is pretty cool. Its just what a detective should be.
I always love reading about mysteries and murder so this story actually fits me but its too bad that there is no english subtitles. I am still waiting for the day when all movies will include english subtitles so that I will understand the show better and the deaf still can enjoy their movie.
