KDrama : Tunnel

In 1986, Detective Park Gwang-Ho desperately tries to catch a serial killer. He chases after the serial killer and goes through a tunnel. On the other side of the tunnel, Detective Park Gwang-Ho finds himself in the year 2017. The serial killer has resumed the killings that began 30 years ago. Detective Park Gwang-Ho works with Detective Kim Sun-Jae and Professor of Criminal Psychology Shin Jae-Yi to catch the killer.

There were several shows based on the true story "Hwaseong Serial Murder Case" where the case remained unsolved till today. You can read about it here

  1. Memories of Murder | Salinui Chueok (2003)
  2. Gabdong, the Memories of Murder | Gapdongi (tvN / 2014)
  3. Signal (tvN / 2016)
  4. Tunnel (OCN / 2017)
  5. Signal (Fuji TV / 2018)

This exciting detective drama has plenty of bends and curves in identifying the villains with an unexpected twist inbetween. Note the "s" behind the villains?
The police team, though quick-witted but is always one step behind the villains, brings on the nail-biting moments. I found myself glued to the screen every time the show is on.

I love the chemistry between the male lead and his old and new working partners. The jokes between them. The undying love he has for his wife. Everyone else seem to be connected to the male lead aka the detective in many unexpected ways which makes it interesting.

To date, Tunnel has the highest-rated drama in OCN’s history, and the cast and crew have been rewarded with a vacation to Guam at the end of May.

I really enjoyed watching Tunnel although the ending was abit of an anti-climax. I guess I was expecting more from Mok Jin Woo. He confessed too easily, considering that the most part of the show was all about catching the murderer. And what happened after he solved the case and returned back to 30 years ago? I guess that would be something we can only guess.

But this is a definite must-watch Korean drama. Please go watch and leave a comment, if you like it.
